In episode 11, Marty Wolff and PSA’s Michael McHale speak with Dr. Tim Simpson, Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Penn State University. Dr. Simpson oversees the first graduate program in Additive Manufacturing and Design, and has published several articles in Modern Machine Shop magazine. He explains that additive manufacturing is the process of building up a part layer by layer; for example, 3D printing of dental aligners, hearing aids, and even hip implants. This conversation covers Penn State’s graduate degree program, it’s relevance to manufacturing industries, as well as the history and future of this technology.
